I was so fortunate to have made the first trip to this marvelous city by an invitation to a wedding of a couple I made friends with whilst living in London for a few months. We were renting apartments in the same building at 3 Ingelow House on Church Street in the Kensington-Hyde Street areas and met one night while walking home and seeing their adorable Dachshund doggie running towards us. Anna and Henrik Eiselt became instant great friends and the time I spent with them and their family in Sweden will always be cherished.

The harbor of Stockholm is alive with an ample selection of tour and cruise boats. I took the lunch cruise along Lake Malaren for a day to visit Drottningholm Palace, and couldn't have been happier, It offers a more exclusive, less crowded atmosphere where one can feel peaceful as the boat glides along the river towards your day's journey. The accommodations on the Stromma lunch cruise were welcomingly comfortable. Highly recommend this trip.

The name Drottningholm (literally "Queen's Island") originated in the late 16th century, when King Johan III built the first Palace on this site, for his Consort, Queen Katarina Jagellonika.

A journey to Stockholm for dear friends’ wedding in the Springtime of the year was such a delightful escape. We stayed in the SAS Hotel in the city center right across from the harbour and visited outside the city by boat to smaller islands for lunches with the family post-wedding, or to the Drottingholm Palace with its generous gardens and topiary, fountains overflowing with clean water. The city’s spas and restaurants were welcoming, rewarding, and refreshing from what we had been used to by our life in Beijing. I loved the customs, the fashion of generic styles and over-sized trousers, jeans, dresses and sweaters. The confidence and beauty of the Swedes is outstanding, and the avenues are paved with a remarkable history that overlaps with the contemporary lifestyle. Sweden is the best!
